Pet friendly coastal cottages - Yorkshire
Rent a pet friendly cottage near the seaside
As far as seaside holidays are concerned, Yorkshire has one of the best coastlines in the country. From large town with lots of amenities to sleepy fishing villages, families will find a choice of dog friendly accommodation. Many cottage owners welcome one, or in some cases, more than one dog in coastal resorts.
The terrific thing about this area is the access to beaches and moors. On moorland, especially on National Park land, note any restrictions on dogs with regard to when they should be on the lead and when they aren’t allowed in certain areas. Yorkshire beaches are mostly dog-friendly, but check with the local authorities or on official websites on the local bylaws and very latest information governing dogs on beaches. Some areas of the Yorkshire beaches may be restricted and different rules sometimes apply at certain times of the year. Long walks with your dog will make your holiday special, and you can download dog walking maps for suitable routes. Check online for dog friendly pubs and cafes in the area, so you can both recover when your walk finishes!

Scarborough has always been a destination for the discerning traveller, with its gorgeous sands and grand buildings from different eras. It’s like two holidays in one, with the North Bay and the South Bay. Go boating on the lake, visit the Sea Life Centre, explore the ruins of Scarborough Castle, join a ghost walk and hop on the North Bay Railway miniature train.
Bridlington offers a traditional seaside break with attractive beaches and harbour, donkey rides, a funfair and pleasure cruises. You can also browse the Old Town, a great centre for independent shops and galleries. Nearby Sewerby Hall and Gardens has a children’s zoo, pitch and putt and a museum.
If you want somewhere smaller and unspoilt, not far from Whitby, make for Robin Hood’s Bay. Highlights include relaxing in the tea garden at Falling Foss Waterfall & Tea Garden in Sneaton Forest, where you can enjoy woodland walks and children can play in the beck. The Old Coastguard Station serves as a National Trust Visitor Centre with displays on the history of local smuggling plus the natural history and geology of the area. A rock pool tank contains crabs, winkles and sea anemones. Robin Hood’s Bay Museum is where you’ll learn about the local fishing industry, local shipwrecks, how smugglers operated and maritime rescues.
Filey is known for its genteel atmosphere, reminiscent of a bygone age. Beaches here have won awards and allow horses. See Filey Museum and Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park and follow the coastal nature trail.
Other charming coastal villages include Runswick Bay, Ravenscar and Staithes. Keen birdwatchers will be interested in RSPB Bempton Cliffs, near Bridlington, one of the most popular locations for nesting seabirds. Fabulous cliff top walks, a nature trail and visitor centre attract visitors from far afield in all four seasons.
So, walk the beaches, the moors and the cliffs with your faithful companion and have an unforgettable seaside break.
